OK, so I am just getting into this, but I use Motorola Phone Tools 4 to transfer my custom ringtones and pictures to my cell.
I know it's best to save my pictures as a .gif, and resize it to 176x220 (or at least crop it to the same ratio percentage).
But is there anything else I can do to maintain a better image quality? Why is it that .jpegs that came packaged with the phone are up to 54.6 KBs, but the images I transfer are shrunken to only 7.0 KBs? Is there something else I need to use instead of Motorola Phone Tools, or something I can unlock to fix this?
Even the Sushi image that comes with the phone is only about 17 KBs, but the quality is so much better :/
TIA

Re: Razr V3 Wallpaper Quality Help
Well the GIf format is whats known as "Lossless" and JPG is known as "Lossy". Basicly what that means is that JPG's are ment for more detailed graphics and photograph like images whereas GIF is used for simple graphics with a limited ammount of colors, such as 32, or 64 colors total. In JPG the colors are UNLIMITED. GIF reduces file sizes by taking away colors and making the image look grainy most of the time and JPG will divide it into blocks and blur it. So you SHOULD use JPG insted of GIF if you want better quality images, that why Motorola used JPG over GIF. Also good job resizeing the image to 176X220..

Re: Razr V3 Wallpaper Quality Help
Thank you, I didn't know that about .jpg and .gif : ) I guess I'm destined to be really disappointed in my custom wallpapers on this phone :/ My sister has an Audiovox SMT5600, and her custom wallpapers come out so well :/ Even her picture of a picture for a wallpaper comes out better than this. Any ideas as to why Motorola Phone Tools shrinks down the size of my file, though?

Re: Razr V3 Wallpaper Quality Help
Well maybe you are not doing it right, if you are saving them in paint then the quality is very very low. I used Adobe Photoshop which can be obtained the same way you get songs in bearshare or limewire...Most of the time you are not saving them right but I do know that in photoshop you can adjust the quality to a certin size but in paint is saves it in a very low quality be default. Hope I helped

Re: Razr V3 Wallpaper Quality Help
there are a large number of programs out there that can reduce the size of images and keep the quality. You do not have to only use MPT to reduce the size of the image.
You can resize using another program and using MPT to simply transfer the pictures.

I use Microsoft Photo Editor (comes bundled with Windows) to do all of my photo work.

Re: Razr V3 Wallpaper Quality Help
Well that will get the job done too I’m not sure if it has the same level of quality control that a program like Photoshop would have but it sure works at a much lower price. But does it allow you to save a JPG in say number 7 quality progressive or is it just save and that’s it?

Re: Razr V3 Wallpaper Quality Help
I don't use MPT to reduce the size, I use Paint Shop Pro.
Then I transfer the image through MPT.

I use Paint Shop Pro, does that works as well as PhotoShop for this?
