I am currently a Verizon customer whose New-Every-Two is about to come around. I'm very interested in the Razr, and recently read some information about the V3x version, but i've gotten confused and i'm here for some clarification...

From what i read about unlocking phones, i gather that when you unlock a phone, you can put any SIM card in, and use that phone on your network, because the company recognized the SIM and not the phone itself. (Correct me if i'm wrong, this stuff is confusing!) Thus, if i get a cheapy phone with my New-Every-2 that has a SIM card, i could get the V3x, put in my new sim card, and all will be fine?

I've read other people's experiences who have said that they cannot use the 3G features or the web browser, but I'm really only interested in what can be done with the camera, txt messaging, pix messaging, and basic calling features.

Browsing this forum, i've seen talk about tri- and quad-band, which i don't really know much about.

So please, help clarify for me what can be done with this phone in the US

Only one tiny problem here LokiDucks,

You are using Verizon, which is a CDMA cell carrier, and their phones do not have SIM cards in them, so even if you did "unlock" a Verizon phone, you would still only be able to use that phone on Verizon's network.

In the case of unlocking a GSM carrier's phone (with SIm card), you could then move to another GSM carrier and put that carrier's SIM card in it, and have it work (for the most part), on the new carrier. There will be setup issues for text messaging, internet and other things, but phone calls would not be a problem once you put in another carriers SIM, in an unlocked phone.

Even if you wanted to use the V3X with a GSM carrier you would still have signal problems since it lacks the 850 mHz band, hence the reason why i didn't buy the V3X and went with the V3i instead.

    thanks, guys, for your replies.

I suppose i'll just go with the Razr that Verizon is offering. I forget which it is. One reason, though, why I was trying to avoid it, is that i read that Verizon puts their own software on it that makes button response time slow (or something like that...i know the camera has a pretty noticable delay)...i wonder if there's a way to correct this?

Verizon adds their own software/menus, so the only way around any possibe problems with their version of sotware, would be to flash the phone with a generic version of the phone's software, that is also compatible with your phone and with verizon's service.

That's going to take some digging around on some of the phone modding forums to see if it's even possible.
