am close to purchasing a cell phone and I was looking at various phones such as LG CU500, LG CU400, Motorola V3xx and a few others. I was looking online at amazon.com and noticed with the three phones mentioned there was this warning:

Warning: If you want to enjoy the full audio and video capabilities of your UMTS phone, please select a MEdia Max service plan option during checkout. If you do not sign up for a MEdia Max service plan option, you will be paying per KB when you use the over-the-air UMTS audio and video features on your phone (upwards of $10 per minute).

I don't plan on purchasing any of the MEdia Max services and don't want to be charged $10.00/minute if I accidently hit the audio or video buttons on these phones and not know it until I get a very large and ugly cell phone bill. I was wondering is there any way to lock the buttons or disable them in any way so that if they are accidently hit I am not going to be charged anything?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

You can call customer service and have them block data from your phone. I recommend the v3xx, btw. I hated the cu500. To many annoying quirks like ascending ringtone, poor signal, terrible battery life, and just other annoying things.

I'm assuming that this would block all access to the internet? I've thought about wanting to be able to get weather and sports scores, but I just don't care for the video or audio downloads.

I am also very satisfied with my V3xx, currently subscribed with Cingular.

As far as I understand, the media packages are all encompasing. If you want weather and sports, you have to pay the same price as those who want everything. If you disable the service, then when you attempt to use the browser you'll receive a network error.

I kind of figured that, but wasn't a 100% sure. I've never owned a cell phone and I like the V3xx, but I just didn't want to get a cell phone bill one day and see a huge bill because the button was hit and i didn't know about it.

It would be nice to be able to access sports scores, weather, maybe even news, but if that means that video and audio downloads would be accessable at a push of one of the buttons and thus charging me a lot of money to my bill, I guess I can live without internet access all together

Going to be getting the V3xx today as an upgrade over my Z525a. I'm sure I'll check into upgrading our media plan...if needed. I don't plan on accessing the video options much..if at all. Mostly the music..mp3,etc. I would think the buttons would be easy to get used to so you can avoid them. One of the things I liked about my z525a was the one button you push to access the net. It was really easy to see if you did and get out of it quick. I'm hoping the V3xx will be somewhat similar in that respect.

Those of you who've had this phone for a bit...what are some things you like about it and would change about it?

Just thought of another question. What software, if any, is needed to transfer songs from cd's to the V3xx? Have you found it difficult to download Mp3's and use them, or parts of them, as ringtones on the V3xx? My comp is running XP software.

Since the v3xx is a flip phone I dont think you have to sorry about hitting a wrong button and connecting to the internet.. if you do it won't automatically charge you a lot of money.
