V3, Contacts in SIM vs. phone

I know that you can copy contacts from SIM to phone and the other way, but if you have copied some contacts, do they show up twice when you display the address book? Do you have to delete them from where you copied them from?

In general, I'm not sure how to configure which set of contacts new entries are added to and which are viewed by default. An older phone of mine would display duplicate entries if they were stored both places -- is the V3 any different?
