T720G Generic - No IMEI??

hi everyone....

my girlfriend needed a replacement phone for cingular, and bought a motorola 720 off ebay (she had the same phone originally). I also have cingular (but have a sony T616 so when the phone arrived, we popped in my sim card, and got nothing but a "No Service" message. Took it to cingular store, and they put a new sim card in, and got the same error. Then they said it doesnt even have the serial number on the back/inside of the phone.

we got home and I checked the box for a serial number and the box has a lable that reads:

T720G N GENERIC
ALL GSM CARRIERS
NO IMEI

I managed to find the code to enter in the phone to get the serial number... took it to another cingular store, and same deal - "No Service".

Can anyone help? What's a generic phone, and how do we make it work on cingular?

I read these forums lots, and you guys offer some great info, tips, suggestions, and best of all, answers to people's troubles!

Rats, guess no one has any clue what a Generic phone is, or maybe why this one doesnt work.

oh well, after a week of trying to contact the seller on ebay, he finally replied and told us to send it back and he'd try to resolve it.
