I think the v551 is an excelent phone. It has all the features one would want in a cell phone and the sound quality is excellent. What sold me on the phone was its EDGE capabilities and bluetooth. also the speakerphone is the best non-nextel speakerphone on a cellular that ive seen. it is loud and the sound is clear not muffled like most cell speakerphones are

I've had my 551 for a couple weeks and it has performed better than expected. Very good sound quality and all the features I could ask for.

I have had my V551 for a month. It drops calls in my apartment. I replaced the antenna with a retrtactable one.. for a slight improvement. Cingular blames it on poor connection to tower. I blame it on Cingular's bad reception.
I love the phone.. I HATE my provider.

Very good, very good
I've had my 551 for almost a month. So far it has performed flawlessly. I've heard people complain about the battery life on the 551, but I don't seem to have that problem. (Anyway, phone batteries are rechargable...I hate to state the obvious, but the charge doesn't last forever; hence, rechargable.)
The 551 does everything a good phone in this price range should. (I got mine for $49.00) Excellent graphics, great colors, and easy to read. I love the ability to send and receive e-mail directly from my phone, as well as access the internet to check my web-based mail (Yahoo). Excellent sound quality, and the MotoMixer is pretty good, although more of a novelty than a serious sound application.
It's pretty handy to have a built-in camera. There have been several times I've been able to snap a shot of something I otherwise would have missed. The video capture is pretty good, too, if you have the need for it. If you're heavy into photos and multimedia, you should really have a way to get the pictures and video off your phone since the memory really is kinda small. I think a bluetooth dongle (USB adapter) is the easiest way, but if you have one of the better MediaNet packages, you can mail them to your computer.
Speaking of MediaNet, Cingular is not exactly liberal with their bandwidth, so you'll have to manage your online time wisely. This has nothing to do with the phone, I just thought I'd throw that in there.
The phone is easy to learn, easy to use, easy to set up and maintain. As far as design, it's a very nice looking phone. (Okay, I admit it, I think it's sexy as hell.) I would definately recommend this phone to those who ask my opinion about it
