Unlocked GSM phones

Hey guys, I am really new with this thing. I have been researching for tools or programs that may help me unlock my Razr. Is there a really experience person in here that knows what I would have to do to get my Razr unloked. I have seen a lot of articiles that claim that you can purchase a box that will automatically calculate the unlock codes for you know and I have also seem articles where you can buy a one time unlock code for the phone you're unlocking.

I am interested in investing in a device or a peice of equiptment that would allow all GSM model phones. Does anyone have any insite on this?
