V551 - Undocumented Icon

Help! I just received an insurance replacement for my V551 that was stolen, and the phone has an icon that is not in the manual and was not familiar to the Cingular rep. The icon is displayed all the time in the upper-left hand corner of the screen, just to the right of the Signal Strength indicator. It is a styalized letter "E" that has two very small parallelogram-shaped colored bars under it, one blue-green and the other red-orange. The Cingular rep thought it stood for "extended service area," but that's not right, because I'm in the heart of a city and receive the primary signal just fine. I'm puzzled, so if anyone out there knows what this is, I'd sure like to know. I went to the Motorola site to see if they've changed their manual to show this, but they have not.

The "E" is the Edge Icon

Gotta' love those "knowledgable" service reps! ..."extended service area"! Insurance replacement eh? Oh dear... these things are typically used or refurbished phones... I don't know about Cingular much but I guess Nextel has a lot of complaints about how their insurance doesn't pay up.
