    Hi,

just passing through here as I'm changing from Orange to o2. Simple enough as it's a pay as you go SIM.

However, why do phones need to be unlocked and why aren't codes readily available on the internet. I have a Motorola V220, but it's tied to orange. Forgive my ignorance, but why do I have to pay someone to unlock it?

im thinking its because of the service providers wanting you instead of unlocking your phone to switch services, want you to buy a new phone so they can make more money that way, if you go a service provider they will tell you that you need a new phone to get a new service plan and such so that is why you pay someone to do it but if your lucky you can find things or someone on the internet that will give you a code to unlock it
