I am really having problems trying to transfer ringtones to my Razr V3 phone without having to buy any additional hardware. I have a Cingular plan with 'pay as you go' Media Net access. I also own Total Recorder which allows me to take sound files and save them to any sound properties (file format, bitrate, stereo/mono, etc.,) and length I need to in order to conform with my Razr's specifications. Can someone answer these questions for me?

    1) What is the largest MP3 file size and bitrate that the Razr, using Cingular as its carrier, can handle?

    2) I've tried sending MP3 files to my phone by emailing it as an attachment to the Cingular MMS domain for my phone <myPhoneNo>@mms.mysingular.com. When it gets to my phone it either says that the file is corrupt or that it is an invalid format. Either way, it strips the attachment.

Someone sent me a polyphonic ringtone as a multimedia message and that worked fine. I also purchased two mp3 ringtones and those work fine although in this case, when I got the message, I was directed to a web site to download the purchased ringtone.

If this doesn't work, I know I'll have to get a USB bluetooth device for my laptop and then some drivers and or software to transfer the files but shouldn't I be able to email mp3 ringtones I create to my cell phone?

I'm new to all of this stuff and I've been fighting with it for three weeks now which is when I changed to Cingular and bought the razr.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks!
    wiz

you can send any size or bitrate to you phone if you have bluetooth or a cable. MMS have a size restriction of 100k if you are trying to send them that way.

check the size on those you are trying to email. you should be able to send them using the #@mms.myCingular.com with no problem if they are not too large and in mp3 format.

    I had the same problem.

I had the same problem you have Ozwizard. When I would e-mail myself an Mp3 ,using #@mms.myCingular.com, it would say file not supported . I tried every frequency and bitrate imaginable, using cheetah audio converter, and nothing worked. And contrary to what the above poster said, files smaller than 100kb were not supported either.

Then I found program called "Wavepad" to convert my files. Now, when I e-mail myself the files I recieve them but as file type .AMR not .Mp3. This wouldn't bother me except that for some reason .AMR files have a much lower volume as a ringtone, and the quality isn't a good. Also I can't play .AMRs on the media player on my sony erricson.

However, you can have www.Funformobile.com send you your file. They send it to you for free but you may still have to pay Cingular 1 cent per Kb, or whatever they charge now, to download it, as apposed to 25 cents for each MMS.(I think I have Cingular's pricing correct, but double check.)

You can download "Wavepad" here: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad
Funformobile.com has some instructions on how to use Wavepad to create mp3 ringtones, but the program is easy to figure out.

If you find or know of a way to prevent mp3's from being automatically converted to AMRs please post it.

Oh, and just so you know I've been sending all my files with a 16k bitrate.
