I don't have a v551, but with my v3, I go to New Multimedia Message > Insert > Voice Record > *do your voice record > send it to your own phone number.
Hope this helps.

when i got the message in my inbox i clicked the middle button the menu button inbetween the two side keys and it gave me a option to store and u can store it only or apply as ringtone.

Tony, all you do is when you receive the outbox/inbox message, is you press the menu button, store it, then apply as ringtone. I got it to work.

You can also create a recording on your computer, edit it, and then use the cable and MPT to copy the recording to you cell phone and use as ring tone.

Re: Voice Recordings As Ringtones?
Yes it does. I created a file in my computer and copied it over to the phone and it can then be used as rington. Just make sure the file you create is compatible (mp3)
