On the top left hand corner of the screen there is a little icon of two boxes and a circle. The manual says it is GPRS. What the hell is it? It just poped up one day...now it is bothering the hell out of me.

Mine appeared very shortly after I got the phone and has not gone away since, my friends Moto 180 is the same way. O well I am used to it now so it does not really bother me.

that lil thing allows you to monitor GPRS data usage both graphically and numerically on your smartphone, thereby giving you more control on your mobile phone bill.

GPRS (general packet radio system)
A GSM data transmission technique that does not set up a continuous channel from a portable terminal for the transmission and reception of data, but transmits and receives data in packets. It makes very efficient use of available radio spectrum, and users pay only for the volume of data sent and received.
my phone always shows GPRS available. You don't get charged, at least ith cingular, for just being connected. Only when sending/recieving data.
The manual should show you what the different icons mean.
