Can't play .mp3s on my Motorola, uploaded via USB...

Hi, thanks for reading. I have a Motorola v265 with US Cellular, and recently got Motorola Mobile Phone Tools v3.2 and usb cable, and everything is working good, except that I can't get .mp3 files to play at all on it. I can download them to the phone no problem, but they always say "file is corrupt" when I attempt to play it, or set it as a ringtone. I really had my hopes up that I could make my own mp3 ringtones!

It uploads and plays midi files fine, but no mp3s. I'm pretty sure it is capable of playing them, since I can listen to the "Real Ringtones" demos I can order with the phone. I reduced the quality of the mp3 with a good audio type converter and even made sure it was nice and short, and was enough free space on the phone, but nothing. Maybe theres a certain bit rate or sample rate it has to be or something? Maybe theres a way to get around something that the phone isnt supposed to play mp3s? I'm lost.. Any suggestions at all? I really would appreciate some help here!! If you need more info about my situation, i'll gladly inform you. please help me!

Follow these steps and see what happens..

1. set bitrate to 64Kbs or lower.
2. set frequency to 22050Khz or lower
3. set to mono.

See if doing that works. By the way, what are the specs on your ringers right now?

If you have the bitrate and frequency too high, the ringer will, either, not play or blow your speaker.

By the way, what program are you using to edit/make your ringers?

the "stock" ringers on the phone are all the real lame midi ones, but I was listening to what I think were mp3s that I could buy on the phone, since they were the actual song, but just lowered quality.

The program I'm using is called "Magix music editor 2.0". You can edit mp3, .wav, .wma etc. files in real time. All i do there is cut it down, then convert it to mp3 if it wasn't mp3 in the first place with a nice quality conversion program called "Audio Conversion Wizard" which lets you convert files to/from wav, mp3, wma, .ogg while changing the bit rate, sample rate, and you can change it to mono or stereo and all that.

The program I'm using to download things to the phone is Motorola Mobile Phone tools v3.2.

I really really appreciate your time here, I wish everyone were as helpful as you.

I tried converting it to the things you said, in mono, and nothing. It still says the file is corrupt.

use wav pad, its free and it works real easy. upload the file, crop what part you want, save as mp3, and then set the bitrate to 48kbps-64kbps (recommended, shouldnt go lower than that), and set to mono (if you want), and set the frequency to 22khz and it should be all good

if you can, compile the ringers you have made and send them over to me, maybe there's something you're missing. Who knows. Just zip them with winzip or winrar or any program similar to those and send them over to me.

Are you even sure you phone supports mp3 ringers? Everywhere I have seen, it says nothing of that.

all you do is go to www.funformobile.com go to "upload ringtone" and upload however long you want it after you cut it using wavepad then it will send it to your phone

p.s. save it as a mp3 before you send it and the site will transfer it into a mid file which still has the same audio as before
