Forgive me if this is in the wrong forum...this site is so BIG. @_@
I got a new cellphone a few weeks ago; a shiny Motorola v276. It works just fine, except I can't figure out how to upload custom ringtones on it. I did a lot of searching, and eventually I came across one method that almost worked. Here's what I do.
The ringtones that I'm trying with are ".mid"s; I don't know if this phone can play MP3s or not, and even if it can I just want to get the basics working first. I attached my ringtone to an e-mail and sent it to [mytendigit#]@vzwpix.com. A few minutes later, my phone beeped and I got a message. The .mid file was attached, but when I went to play it, it didn't work. Like, the player started and then immediately stopped.
I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I tried different .mids. Still didn't work. It might be a problem with the attachment, but I just don't know. I tried sending it from Outlook, and it comes across as a .dat file; no luck there. Sending it from GMail gets it across just fine, but the filesize isn't the same. (On my computer, one MIDI was 1.88 KB and on the phone it was 1.79. I don't know if that means anything.)
Can anybody tell me what might be wrong? It's really frustrating me.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I'm looking at it some more, and I'm only getting more confused. Some of the ringtones that came with the phone are around 4~5KBs, but they're 20 some seconds long. My 2 KB .mid is only 3 or 4 seconds long. Are there different .mid formats, maybe? I probably sound like one of those really stupid people you hear about in 'help desk horror stories,' who wants to know why his cupholder stopped working. Sorry! I simply don't know much about MIDIs.

I totally didn't know that! =D
..but it doesn't work either. ;_; It comes REALLY close, though. Is there any way I should be transferring the .mp3s to my cell? When I e-mail them as attachments, they come across as .qcp files, smaller in size but in horrible quality. I don't really mind, but it won't let me set .qcps as ringtones. =\
I think I read about this somewhere before, and the solution in that case was to rename the .mp3 to a .mid before sending it. I did that, and when I got the message on my phone it still had a .mid attachment. But then it wouldn't play it, saying that the file type was unrecognized.
Any other ideas? If anyone can help with any of these, it'd be much appreciated:
-Getting .mids to work, and then setting them as ringtones
-Setting .qcps as ringtones
-Setting .mp3s as ringtones

In all my experiences with these kind of things, I have found that MPT gives me nothing but headaches. I found P2KMan over at Motomodders.net, and it has worked great since day one. Try that and see if you can get your ringtones to your phone.

Thanks for the try
Thank you for the response. I did go to that link and downloaded the software. It loads but does not recognize that the cell phone is there. Any ideas as to why? So far, MPT keeps giving me the microsoft we must close error message when it searches for my cell phone and the P2K won't recognize the phone. I am batting - not good ones here. Any ideas from all would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you install the drivers that came with P2KMan? When you open that program, then plug in your phone, it should prompt you for USB drivers like 5 or 6 consecutive times, and each time, you should point it at the "drv" folder within P2KMan. Once all drivers are installed, it should work for you no problem...

I downloaded the program from the site you suggested. It did not ask me for any drivers after I connected my phone. Am I doing something wrong?

Is your phone being recognized as a USB device? Your computer should make a tone when you plug your phone into a USB port, to let you know it was detected. Make sure al your connections are good, and your speakers are turned up enough to hear the tone. Once your phone is detected, run P2KMan, and it will prompt you for the drivers.

Motomadman
The computer see it as a modem and there is a beep when i connect it. I run P2Kman and it does not prompt for additional drivers or anything. It seems to not recognize the phone is connected. MPT also says it doesn't recognize a phone connected. Does any one have a surefire cure for this very frustrating experience? Thanks in advance.
