I read somewhere this could be done. Can someone give me a way to do this if its possible?

Just transfer the voice recording to the ringtone folder on your phone. Just make sure it is in mp3 format, and that it is no longer than 30 seconds.

you can chop it down with MPT
Motorola phone tool multimedia center has a sound editor where you can pick which part of your mp3 file you want.
When you create your mp3 file you should make it as small as you can (lower sampling rate and frequency) It will sound the same on the phone speaker and will be smaller.
