I am trying to copy some wav files to my v551 but every time I do a transfer it says invalid file type. I have converted the wav to MP3 using Audacity only to get the same message. I have no problem slicing and dicing regular MP3's into ringtones and getting them to my phone but the wav thing has me perplexed.

    See More: V551 wav files?

wav files take up a lot more space than mp3 because they are uncompressed audio. for some reason i had a similar problem with audacity even though it seems to work fine for most other people. what you want to do is get a different audio converter to turn your wav files into an mp3, and that will save space and solve the problem. Wavepad is one of the more common programs that people use to convert their files.

    hope this helps

Maybe it has to be a true MP3 & not a converted MP3? That's the only thing I can think of. Have you tried this website?

I thought I was doing that with Audacity but I will give your advice a shot. Thanks a bunch!

something i thought of just now, if you have ever installed any kind of mp3 codecs on your computer other than LAME you might be having a compatibility problem with the codecs you're using to convert, not the program itself. so try downloading and installing the LAME mp3 codecs. i have the install file somewhere on my computer... if i find it i'll come right back and post it up for you.

I converted the wav's to MP3's Audacity but I still got invalid file type. Normal MP3's are working fine. I will give your advice a shot. Thanks a bunch!

I installed the LAME codecs this morning. Maybe I'm just LAME :-)

don't put yourself down i'm sure it's not anything you're doing wrong. computers, codecs, and phones all have their different quirks. here is my final suggestion before i'm out of ideas. for quick and easy conversions from wav to mp3 i use a different converter i got from download.com. i urge you to install this at your own risk because i think it gave me some spyware, which was then easily removed with Ad-aware. this is the converter i use:

i hope this works for you since nothing else has panned out so far...

Got it!!! used Wavepad to convert to MP3 instead of Audacity and it worked fine. I just transferred several to my phone and now have the ringtones I wanted. Thanks a bunch y'all.
