someone gave it to you? sounds unlikely but what service do you have?
    Can you hear me now?
    Lois: You're drunk again.
Peter: No, I'm just exhausted 'cause I've been up all night drinking.

    Which provider is it?

Two questions: Which provider is it set up for? Which one do you want to use it on. As long as they're both GSM providers, you should be able to make it happen. If either on is Verizon, it's probably not going to work. Let us know and we may be able to help you out.

Wow I need a friend that will give me a brand new, just on the market, $300 phone, just because they decide to get a new phone. WHoo Hoooo!

Well the thing to do would be to have your "friend" contact T-mobile to get the phone unlocked. I mean she does still have the Tmobile account right?

And even if she doesn't she has 90 days to unlock the phone after leaving T-mobile. Your problem is now solved with her making a simple phone call.

Once unlocked you can pop in your Cingular SIM and you are good to go.

And hopefully your friend won't be so busy for the next 90 days (if she left T-mobile that is) to make that call for you. Otherwise, find one of the many UNLOCKING services and pay them to unlock it for you. Granted you may have to pay upwards or $30 to $60 bucks, but hey you got a few $300 phone, so what's a few bucks gonna hurt?
