Is one better than the other for changing settings, boot-up & shut-down pictures, moving files, etc?

See More: What does MPT do that P2kman doesn't & vice-versa?

Just to be sure, by MPT I mean Motorola Phone Tools. Is MPT more official and less "hack" friendly than P2kman, or am I just missing the whole point of both programs?

All MPT does is allow you to transfer ringtones, wallpaper and screen savers to your phone, as well as backup your phone book or sync the phone book with one entered on your computer (which is a faster way to enter a lot of phone numbers and get them onto your phone).

P2kman on the other hand, allows your to actually edit the software of your phone. Enabling or disabling features, turning on menus that are not turned on (by your carrier).

A tacky analogy would be MPT is $1.00 calculator, while P2man is a $2,000 Desktop computer. They both do certain things, just different things, with P2kman doing many things that MPT can't.

Ah. Good to know. I don't have my phone yet, but downloaded MPT & updated it to 4.04.

What's the newest version of P2kman? There's a bunch of different versions out there.

Don't know what the latest version of P2kman is since I have not used it as yet. But whatever version you get, make sure you make a COMPLETE backup of your phone's software first and ONLY edit a COPY of that, rather than your saved original backup.

And heed any warnings about what to do when you are using the program, as far as following steps someone outlines on any message forum for making changes to anything.

Where/how do you get a copy of the phones software? Just duplicate whatever is in the phone itself?
