Got this used v551 and put my chip in and found the factory unlock codes. Worked fine I thought, got the whole list displayed as unlocked. But....
when I look at the downloaded ringtones and the pictures that were left on the phone, there is still the little red 'lock' by each one. I have looked in the users manual for locking/unlocking and not found what I need. Can someone walk me through it? The locked photos and tones can't be accessed through the computer link up software. A couple of the photos didn't have the 'red lock' and those transfered fine. Any help for me?

    Howdy Tim,

You will need to use software to EDIT your phone's software and a data cable, to get rid of anything on the phone that you don't want there.

BTW those little red locks are only on the files that came with the phone.

Go here, to learn the basics and the more advanced info, as well as programs and where to get then, for modifying your phone.

You will want to read a bit, because there are some sound files you will NOT want to delete, because the phone uses them for alerts. At least you will not want to delete them until you know how to rename a file that you do want to use and where it needs to be placed.

go here for another program to use as well...

Wow Blackbear, thanks for the quick response but I'm pretty sure the naked pictures didn't come with the phone when new! I do have the cable and software, installed fine, just need some help walking through the steps. I'll check out the links you sent, and any other help would be great.

LOL naked pics! I'll bet they locked them so they would not deleted them by accident.

Depending on what software you are using, you will need to make sure that none of the pictures are added to any phone numbers. The change the attributes from hidden, system or read only. Then once you have done that, you can zap them.

WHoo Hooo naked pictures on your phone!!

Well, I've looked at the site and procedure you provided, thanks but it looks way beyond my abilities. I was hoping that someone who is familiar with the v551 could tell or show me where to access those red locks. I can't even find where they were activated, if I did, the factory default code may unlock them (it worked for the other stuff).

It's not so much about the pics although I would like to remove them, I would like to remove the ringtones that were downloaded to the phone. These include Celiene Dieon (sp) and asst.country western. (not my taste) and it wastes memory space.

    Any help would be appreciated,
    t

Sadly there is not "EASY" way to get at those re locked files. You'll need to use software that allows you to modify the phone's software/menus/files, beyond copying graphics and ringtones to the phone. Those red locks (if you can't just unlock them from the file menu), are there to stay.

Sounds like the person that had the phone before you, fiddled with some program or another and either locks all the files they downloaded, or edited the wrong thing and locked all the files.
