how do you upload skins for motorola phones?

I'm getting tired with the lousy blue skin that came with mine. Is there a way to upload one via a data cable or wap? I've tried that phone browsing application too (I can't remember its name) but it won't seem to detect the phone (???). Is there a way to do it using phone tools? Like when you create a folder called "kjava" for games to be uploaded?

The software on that link is the software I meant. It won't seem to detect my phone. The data cable I use is an unofficial one, but it works perfectly with motorola phone tools. Can I modify a setting or something, so that it detects my phone (C975's are compatible aren't they)?
