If that phone is LOCKED. Inserting a foreign sim card will cause the phone to say "enter subsidy code" and will NOT let you do much more than power down or enter the code .
Enjoy.[/quote]
This is something I'm not used to at all. Are you saying that if you have an unlock code for a phone you want, you can use any phone on a different network if you have the unlock code(s) for it? Please excuse my ignorance on this one...

unlocking a phone, refers to the subsidy lock, allows you to use ANY providers sim card (thereby incurring their native fees) in your phone RATHER-be forced to 'roam' (thereby incurring your OWN providers ROAMING (usually grossly inflated) rates while in another country).
That applies mainly to businessmen., or simply vacationers in foreign countries.

If you enter the code incorrectly too many times, you'll lock the SIM.
There are unlocking services that charge a reasonable rate (online or at independently-owned cellular dealers that aren't corporate-run), but if you are really determined to unlock it on your own and take the risk, please try searching google. Just beware that you might end up downloading a useless program bundled with spyware if you don't trust the source or the site it's coming from.

Weez | When you take out your Cingular SIM and put in a different SIM for the first time, it will ask for the unlock code and you have to put it in EXACTLY as they gave it to you. Inputting the wrong unlock code too many times will lock the SIM which means you might as well throw the SIM in the trash bin. (it's either 3 or 5 incorrect tries, I can't remember so get it right the first time!)

But you have to see it from thier view you recieved that phone at a big discount when you signed up and it takes them a while to recoup the money that went out to purchase that phone for you.
