i had cingular service with an old motorola phone. I needed a new phone so i bought an unlocked slvr L6 off ebay and put my sim card in it.

I'm pretty sure my sim card is working becuase all my numbers transfered/it still works in the old phone. But with my slvr I get no service.

I dont know too much about cell phones so what do you thinks the problem?

    thanks

    Re: Slvr L6

Sounds to me like you bought the European tri-band version of the Slvr. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but without the GSM 850mhz band, you might not get service in a lot of parts of the US with that phone. Are you with Cingular? They still use 850mhz in a lot of places.

Yes, try to return it and get your money back! Remember it's not the seller's fault if they listed that info on the auction page, just an honest mistake that happens all the time. Make sure the next phone you buy has both the 850 and 1900 bands, those 2 are the ones used in the USA. Good luck!

if you talk to the seller on ebay they are usually very helpful about the phone they sold. they dont want negative feedback

I did learn by experience that you can take your phone to a Motorola service center and in some part of the country they do flash it for you free if you can’t return your phone cause it was with no warranty try that you can find the authorize dealers near you on Motorola

Hey, I just bought one of these phones, too. I'm pretty sure it's the European model--it's got a euro plug and a US adaptor. How do I find out what bands it has? I got it because I need a phone I can use in the UK, but I don't want to be stuck in the US with no service anywhere, either.

    I'm using T-Mobile.

I also can't get the browser settings from anywhere, at least not tonight. Might be able to get them from T-Mobile tomorrow when I have another phone handy.

    Anyway, thanks.

With T-Mobile you should be ok. The phone would still have the 1900 band which is what T-Mobile uses in the US.
