Anyone know of any Motorola phones that support API-JSR 82? So far, the only one I have found is the E770v, but that is a Vodafone handset, and I don't know if it will work with my carrier (plus it's kind of an ugly phone.) The reason I want a phone that supports API-JSR 82 is that I found a neat program that will allow you to use a Bluetooth phone as a remote control for the PC. But you have to run a Java applet on the phone in order for it to work, and it will only run on phones that support API-JSR 82. It has something to do with running Java in synchronization with Bluetooth. I guess Nokia and a few other manufacturers have been using it for quite some time now, and I don't want to have to switch to another make of phone because I really do like Motorola. I have searched all over the place for this, and yielded nothing. I was hoping someone else may have some insight on this subject. Thanks in advance.

I found the Motorola A1000 with a search of Google Korea. It lacks the 850mhz band though and might not be compatible with your carrier, but I'll keep looking around. I didn't check Google Japan yet. Believe it or not, you can find a lot of different things with foreign googles sometimes.

So, basically, I will be able to use said phone as a BT remote for my laptop, at the expense of service issues? I know Cellular One uses the 1900 mHz band, but to what extent is beyond me. So if I go into an area that doesn't use that band, I'll get no service at all. Thanks for searching for me, I didn't know about Google Korea or Google Japan. I appreciate it.

No problem. Follow this link and input your zip code. It will not only show you what frequency your carrier uses, but also let you know what other GSM carriers are using, to give you an idea of what your potential roaming coverage will be like. (I say 'potential' because of course having other GSM providers nearby doesn't guarantee roaming service, it depends on if they have agreements or partnerships with your provider).

I will say, there are a lot of people who buy phones on ebay that lack the 850 band, and they end up disappointed and trying to resell their phones. If I were seriously considering a european or asian tri-band phone, I'd be calling my provider and asking them a lot of very specific questions concerning coverage before I invested the money on a nice phone like this!
