URGENT-Unlocking v3 in Canada

Hi everyone i'm new in this forum and it's the best cell phone forum that i've never seen

1 year and half ago, my uncle(lives in China) went to GREECE for 1 week and bought a Motorola RAZR v3. It was new in the market. Then he bringed it back to China and ''updated'' into chinese version so it can be used. I(live in Canada) went to China for the last 2 months and my uncle gave his v3 to me. I thought that all i needed to do when landed in Canada is to buy a SIM card and buy antenna card every week cause I'll not use that much my cell phone. But when I arrived in Canada, I went to some mobile phone compagnies like ROGERS/FIDO and the sellsperson put his own SIM card on my phone, it didn't worked. He said that I gotta UNLOCK my cell phone.

First of all, I don't know where to unlock it so if someone living in MONTREAL or LAVAL could tell me an adress, it would be appreciated.

Second, can someone tell me WHY I need to UNLOCK my cell when it can be used in CHINA.

Thirdly, do you guys know how much it will cost?

Ok, some cell phone stores (like the ones you see on the corners or run down buildings) will unlock your phone for about 20 U.S. and when your phone was purchased it was most likely branded to a certian carrier. I'm not sure how your uncle from China got a V3 from greece to work there but good for him. But once your phone is unlocked all you'll have to do is insert your sim, and it should work.

Thanks for your answer Griffzan. I just called a comganie and it says that will cost 40$ CAN. Maybe it's a little bit expensive cause he said that the price depends on your cell phone...

you can unlock those thing your self now aday, just have to do some searching and reading

Yes I've heard of and searched on the net too...gotta buy a cable and stuff...

It used the same cable that many digital camera used
