Hi
Just bought a used PEBL and now I'm having a very frustrating time.
Long story short, I bought it without a battery as the seller sold the original to a friend that needed it. I didn't see this as a problem as one could get a battery fairly cheap. So, I purchased model SNN5696B from MalcomWireless ( PriceGrabber store front ).
Charge it up the first time but it seemed to charge in an hour or less and I thought this seemed odd for a brand new battery. I'm using the original Motorola AC charger.
Whenever I close the phone, the external display would do a number of random things. Not in any particular order or anything but show the Motorola logo, go blank, go blank but backlight remain lit, flicker the time / signal / battery. The internal display [after reopening it] will show blank or show completely white. Sometimes it will show the normal screen and work properly. Sometimes it would show the normal screens but say No Service. Not always the same actions but this happened every time I closed it. It worked flawlessly otherwise. I can make calls and use it as long as I dont' close it...It gets "cranky."
That day the battery completely drained within ~12 hours ( 1-5 mins of actual use ). At one point the rear of the phone got very warm.
The next charge yielded more normal results ( charge time, temps, ... ) and it worked flawlessly for the next 9 hours or so. No problems whatsoever. I thought it maybe a fluke.
Sure enough, the problems came back later that day.
The previous owner strongly claims that it worked perfectly fine for him. Could this at all be related to a ['bad'] battery or did he try to con me? If a replacement battery would fix it, I'm all for it.
This is a great phone when it works as designed but I'd either like to get it working 'normally' or get my $$$ back.
It's an unlocked retail unit ( no branding, ... ). I tried to get warranty service but since it is a Greece retail version, they won't offer any warranty to users outside of Greece. <--Don't even get me started about this.
A visual demonstration... -- <-- This is what I emailed to the seller --
