Unlocking Motorola V710

I want to buy this phone off of ebay.com, but it doesn't say that it's unlocked. What will happen if it's not unlocked when i buy it? Does that mean that i won't be able to activate it with my service provider?

Well if its locked, it can only be activated on the carrier it was meant for originally.

If not locked an is compatible, it is up to the carrier you are hooking up to if they allow foreign esn's or not on thier network some are picky like Telus, they do not allow other handsets on their network.

Call your carrier an ask if they allow unlocked phones to be used or not on thier phones network, an if they do, get the ESN off of the seller an ask if it is allowed, it may be stolen, still in someones names etc... Just to make sure it clears.

Well I have verizon, and the seller on ebay says the compatability is with VERIZON and no others. I messaged them and asked if it was unlocked, and I'm waiting for a reply.

The auction says its New in Box, never used. It's a decent phone for a cheap price (better than waiting a year to upgrade from verizon without a phone) and I hope it works out.

And also, new in box would mean it was locked (hasn't been used by anyone before), so I wouldn't have any problems activating it, is that right?

If its locked to the carrier you already use, theres no problem right.
If its pre played with an locked somehow,then there might issues, however as you said, nib sale, meaning no one else's face grease on it, all should be gold.
