I have a SLVR L7, and after asking about ringtones on this site, found out that the data cable that comes with the phone for transferring Itunes is supposedly sufficient for transferring ringtones and what not to my phone. Someone even said I don't need to buy the software (MPT?) to accomplish this. Well not knowing much about cell phones, I gave it a shot, but failed. I can't seem to figure it out.

    Here is what I did:

    1. I connected the cable to my phone and computer, easy enough, have done this with Itunes, this isn't the problem obviously.
    2. Didn't have Itunes open on my computer, that way the Itunes screen wouldn't come up on my phone.
    3. Opened up My Computer, and went to where my phone was listed as a Removable device, opened it up and saw a bunch of subfolders, ringtones/videos/system were just a few, there were more.
    4. Opened up the folder that has my mp3s and mp4s.
    5. Dragged the mp3 (weezer - beverly hills) INTO the blank empty space in the folder titled "ringtones", for abour 30 seconds it transfers, and then completes. Meanwhile itunes is trying to open up on my phone, but I hit exit as the file had transferred supposedly.
    6. Went to my phone, went to settings and ringtones, and I did not see the song listed anywhere!

Where did I go wrong, where did this file go to, and how can I find it on my phone? I went through all the options on my phone, and have no idea where to find it.

Also what are "rar" files, I saw in the ringtone forum there was a download link for a whole set of them, so I downloaded it, but it isn't recognized by my computer.

Anyways I guess I really need help with this in a step by step manner since apparently I can't even do this simple task lol. So can anyone really quickly explain how to do this?

    1. Hit the menu button and select Media Gallery
    2. Now go over to Sounds
    3. Hit Menu and select Switch Storage Device
    4. Select the Trans Flash card
    5. Now you should see your ringtone
    6. Highlight the tone and hit Menu
    7. Scroll down to Move and select Phone
    8. Once finished go back to the Main Menu
    9. Settings > Ring Styles > Loud Detail > Calls > and select your ringtone.

RAR files is basically a .ZIP file, you can download the file and use winRAR to "unzip" it.

    Thanks alot man.

Ok I followed along with that, but 7 is where it didn't work. I went to "move" and "move to phone", but it said "insufficient storage, also when I just tried to hit play, it would play about 1 second of it and say "format not supported". I thought mp3s could be transferred onto my phone, according to another thread I saw. The file is "Mpeg layer 3", I assume that meant mp3, maybe not?

As far as the rar thing, I downloaded the attachment from here: http://cellphoneforums.net/ringtones...-1st-post.html

Now its on my desktop, but do I need to download winRAR or winzip or somethin? And THEN transfer it to my phone?

Sorry for all these questions, I am just incredibly confused, I've looked around on the forum for awhile, but still can't figure it out.

Well part of it sounds like the file is too big to be moved to the phone.

Yes, you will need to download winRAR to unzip the file and then you can transfer it to your phone

Once again, thanks alot man, great help.

I downloaded winRAR, and then that file with the ringtones appeared with all the ringtones, looking through it, I put Phantom Planet - California into the "ringtones" folder, followed the rest of your directions from the first post, and it worked! I normally and not THIS technolgically impaired, but oh well, starting to understand how it works a little better. Now if only I could figure out how to figure out all these preinstalled lame ringtones, then I'd be in business! ha. Yea i'm assuming that the other file was just too big, it's ok, I don't want the whole song anyways, just thought I would try.

I;m also having a problem with "Format not supported", despite them being MP3's. could it be something to do with the size of the song ?? I don't use them as ringtones just play them and it says not supported ???

Anyone came across a similar problem ??

you can go to motomodders.net and sign up and then you will see the downloads section. Go under P2K software and download P2KTools Version 0.7.1.9 by Bezol. There is alot of information on the SLVR and other Motorola GSM phones in those forums also. Try there and I hope that helps.
