My phone has "EV" in the place that normally a "D" for digital would appear. What does that mean?

Re: Ev?
It means you're in an EVDO market. You could access VCAST (or whatever the equivalent of your provider is) in areas where the EV is displayed.

Re: Ev?
To add to Spum's post, EV-DO is the data specific side of most CDMA networks. The 1x that you see displayed from time to time is the voice specific side of a CDMA network. You will always be in 1x, but you may not always be in EV.

If you're in a city, chances are it will never switch to D. I live in an area that doesn't have an EVDO market. They're supposed to be building one sometime next year, but for now, I'm stuck without EVDO service.

Re: Ev?
I have a Motorola E815 cell phone. I too have just recently noticed that the usual "D" has been replaced (part of the time) with an "EV". I live in an area where there is little to no service. I note that it switchas back and forth between "D", "EV" and no service.
Prior to the time I started receiving the "EV", my battery lasted 72 hours or more, (little to no talk time). about the time the "EV"tarted appearing my battery became low or completely discharged in 8 to 10 hours. Thinking the battery was bad I replaced it, same thing low or discharged in 8 to 10 hours....is there any connection between the "EV" and early battery discharge? IF not....what's going on.
All help appreciated....
