Motorola SLVR L7, key lights issues??

my roomie Got an L7, and the lights on my keypad dont turn on everytime i go to use my phone. it's not a battery issue, it's a fully charged battery. anyone else have this issue? or is there something about this phone i dont know?

make sure the settings for the backlight on the keypad is on, most phones have a setting on them to turn them off or have them stay illuminated for a specified period of time.

the setting is turned on. it's just that sometimes the keypad turns on, and sometimes it doesnt. everything else comes on though. totally freakin wierd.
