"EV" appearing next to my Digital icon??

Alltel replaced my RAZR phone today due to a problem with my original (was still under warranty). Now I occasionally get a red "EV" icon appearing just to the right of the Digital "D" icon. I haven't been able to find out what this is signifiying. Anyone know what this means? Thanks!

that is the icon for the extra service that your provider provides..ie for verizon it means you are in the VCast area, im not sure what alltel provides but thats what it is.

EV is short for EV-DO, the CDMA provider's data network.

And it will appear on your phone anytime you're in an area that gets reception for it; this will happen even if you do not subscribe to the service, it's just an indication that you're in a good reception area.

thats the words i was looking for, data network, just couldn't think of the wording at the time, thanks paul.
