V235: how to stop the low battery and welcome screen tones?

I have a Motorola V235 from Suncom. This phone model is fairly new, launched in fall 2005.

Anyone know how I can:

(1) stop my phone from making that annoying low battery alert tone, and
(2) eliminate the sound the phone makes when the welcome screen is shown, at bootup?
