need help downloading music

I have the Razr V3r. I am so completely ignorant on this whole issue. I read the above thread on how to connect the USB cable but that does not help me. I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm so confused.
I have a standard USB cable. When I hook up my phone to my PC it is recognizing the phone. All of my music is in Windows Media 11. WMP is not recognizing my phone as a device, therefore I cannot sync any music.

What the heck do I do here? I have to convert my WMA files to MP3 files right? Doesn't the sync option in the media player do that?

I shouldn't need a memory card, the manual says "buy a card to hold more songs".

Can someone walk me through this please. I'd appreciate it.

Do you have the drivers for your phone? WMP will not do anything without these drivers. And i am not sure if WMP 11 is compatible with your phone, Paul would know, he is a rep, and therefore should have a clue on this. I had a problem with which USB slot I used, seems i had to find the correct slot before I got it to recognize and accept my phone, but I have my phone drivers from the music essential kit from verizon. Is WMP 11 a beta version or the release version?
