slvr playing ringtone for text message?!

okay so this is really weird. all of a sudden tonight. everyone who has a custom ringtone set up for them; when they send me a text it is playing that ringtone rather than the text message sound. this is really ****ing annoying! what the hell happened?
im pretty sure i didnt change any setting.... i didnt know you could even set a custom text message tone for people. has this ever happened to anyone else?

Standard Motorola problem. Actually you never had a test message tone for anyone to whom you assigned a customized ringtone. Anytime you assign a specific ringtone to a specific number, you get that sound whether it's a call or a text message.

It can be very annoying. You are expecting a call from someone and you hear their tone and you grab the phone and start talking and then you realize it's a text message, not a call.

There is no work around for this that I've ever seen. It's a problem everyone has and no one seems to have a solution for.

I don't disagree. It is a very bad design feature. And yes to my knowledge that is how all Moto software works.

I seem to recall that someone once claimed to have a seem edit for this problem. Seem editing is where you use a software application to modify the programming on your phone. As I recall, it wasn't consistently a fix and only worked part of the time.

Motorola knows this is an annoying feature because people have told them through several generations of phones. Still, they haven't corrected the problem.

It's just something you have to live with if you use Motorolas.
