It's much easier with a memory. And since your rizr only has 24MB of built in memory, you are going to need one anyway if you are serious about using the phone as an MP3 player. 24MB will only hold about 6 songs.

But until you decide to buy one -- you need software drivers to connect a PC to the phones internal memory using a Mini USB cable. Or a bluetooth adapter for the PC. You can get Motorola Phone Tools for less than $10.00 on Amazon, or you can search the net for PK Commander or PK Tools, which is freeware that will allow you to make the connection. I found the free program somewhat buggy and it required reloading all the drivers each time I used it. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Instructions on connecting either way at the link in my sig.

Hook the card reader up to your computer.
You will then take the card and put it into the adapter that it came with.
You will put the adapter in the card reader so that the card is hooked up to your pc. Now the card should be hooked up to the pc.
After that, you need to find the memory card by going to ‘My Computer’. The card should show up as one of the drives in there, probably the E or F drive. It is usually called ‘Removable Disk’ or ‘mobile device’.
After you have figured out which drive is the ‘Removable Disk’ or ‘mobile device’, right click and then select ‘format’. Before you go any further, make sure that you have removed everything you need to save from the card. Formatting the drive will erase everything. If the card is new you have nothing to worry about, but if you have pictures of your kids, save them before going on. So you should have right clicked and selected “format”.
Once the format box comes up, you will select FAT in the file system drop down and then click start. Your computer will then format the drive to the FAT file system. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry about it. FAT is the most compatible file system with the RIZR-Z3. The other option here will probably be FAT 32. Again, you want to select “FAT”.
When your computer is done formatting the drive, you will need to put it in your phone. The phone should recognize it and add some folders to the drive. When it’s done, you will put the card back in the card reader. You will go to “My Computer” again and find the ‘Mobile Device’ or ‘Removable Disk’ again.
This time you will double click on “Mobile Device”, and you should be able to see some folders in there. You should see a folder called ‘my_music’, and if you don’t you need to create one. Make the name to ‘my_music’ without the quotes. Drag your music to that folder and you’re all set!
Put the card back in the phone and you’re all taken care of.
