moto q freezes @splash screen

My Q sat in a drawer for a couple of months while I got bored with a new phone. When I charged and started it all I got was the splash screen. When I tried to do a master reset it froze on that screen also. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix it? It's verizon phone and they just want to sell me a new phone. My wife wants me to give up and let the granddaughter have it for a toy phone. Am I being too stubborn and just need to buy another one? Inquiring minds want to know.
