Phone Tools - Can't get cell phone to talk to pc

Hi. I've got an older i305 I'm trying to get my PC to talk to via the Motorola Phone Tools. The problem is, it won't see my phone. It took forever to get the driver installed, but even then I get no communication. I'm using a standard usb data cable for it and I'm using the latest 4.5 version of phone tools. Anyone know why my phone might not be detected? Is there a special series of steps I need to take in order to get my phone installed? Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

EDIT: Ok, apparently my phone doesn't work with the phone tools, nor does it properly work as a modem. Figures. *sigh* I need to get myself a new duck.

Had this problem with the hubby's phone, I did a master reset and a master clear ***BACKUP ALL OF YOUR STUFF*** and that did the trick
