If I understand you right all you want to do is change your phone, right? I do know Solo is a
CDMA provider(hence the lack of
SIM card obviously), but I don't know exactly how they handle things.
Typically in the US, with
CDMA carrier you can change the
ESN associated with your phone number by doing it yourself through the online account manager, calling in to CS, or taking it to a store. Usually doing it from the account manager on the web is free and a charge if the provider does it.
You are really not cloning anything, just changing the associated
ESN. I don't know your reluctance to go to the provider but if you don't have the provision by Solo, to have your account on the web that is the way to do it. In the US it is a pretty common thing to do.
