Z9 Ringtone Issue

Just got this phone & I really love it. I am used to my V3 which I had No problems with pics, ringtones ect.
I have been working on this for 3 days, no matter what I cannot get my Mp3(edited & cut down to size) to go into ringtiones..instead it goes into my music player.
Using MPT 5.0..if I click on their melody file..that tone will go into the ringtone file, if I download a ringtone from AT & T that will go into the ringtone file, but if I download from any other ringtone site..it goes into music player. I have been on other sites with Modding etc. I am a complete novice....when it comes to modding a phone. So I need a less complicated fix for this problem. However I can download any pics in a flash...is there something I am missing??? Any help will be appreciated

I have a Razr2 V9m which is a replacement phone for the first V9m I owned & replaced. The original (1st) version downloaded songs with no problems at all from different sites on the net. The replacement phone refused to download the ring tones except into music. After 2 days of frustration, I visited the store & was told the v9m has had 4 patches. The last blocks ringtones from anyone but the carrier of your service, i forget the exact terminology of the type of file that must be there & only there with THEIR service.

It was supposed to be for copyright infringement protection. Suspicious about that though as if I copy it & play it aloud, I see no difference than using it as a ring tone. I think the $ of ringtone downloads speak the loudest.

Unfortunately, I know of no way around it.
