Hi I am looking at getting a new phone a motorola i880 to be exact. I am from Canada and will be looking to put it on the telus Mike network. I know Nextel has the same phone and can be used on the telus mike network once unlocked. Anyway what I am wondering is if I get a nextel phone and get it unlocked do I need to get a new sim card to use instead of the one it would have from nextel. or will the one it came with work when I hook it up to telus Mike

Sorry dude. that wont work. Telus is a CDMA carrier and doesnt use a SIM card. Nextel uses IDEN. The two communication types are totally incompatible.

hmm.. this must be something new. from what i have always heard though, Telus is a CDMA carrier. Regardless whether they are CDMA or GSM, the fact is that neither is compatible with the IDEN that Nextel uses (as far as I know).

wrong again Telus Mike does use the iden and both telus mike and nextel offer the i880 and I know you can use nextels on telus mike once unlocked I just am not sure if I need a telus mike sim card or if the nextel phone sim card will work.

ah.. well then. i stand corrected.

i did some digging around and realized that the "Mike" phones are apparently separate from "Telus" and do use iDEN. I would assume though that you would need a SIM card from that network though. From what I understand, those things are network specific. But then again, I don't know jack about GSM and iDEN really since I live in the US and the majority of our networks run on CDMA.
