Verizion K1m + memory card????

I have a K1m Verizion US phone that I can not install a mem card. I do not subscribe to V Cast but I have hacked the phone to allow full use of MPT. The phone has no selection to format the mem card and when the card is found in file transfer area of MPT it gives an error message, "request Denied by phone Error.....". Anyone have a work around for this?
