I am wondering because I live in Canada and this is a US programmed phone, according to sim cards, it has a Rogers service sim card installed already however, Rogers has cancelled service for my area. Can I take my phone to another provider like TBay Tel where I can get it hooked up for pay-as-you-go service?

All help would be appreciated at this moment in time.

you are referring to the Motorola V551, right? I'm not 100% sure if the phone is locked to a specific service, but worst case you just have to get it unlocked and get a new sim for the service you want.

Regardless you could get a pay as you go phone for pretty cheap. The Motorola V551 was released in 2004 and is quite dated.

Re: sim cards canada - Motorola V551

another quick question for all you knowledgeable folks out there, when I turn the phone on, I get the message "unregistered sim" showing up, is this due to the card or the phone? Would I be able to extract this card and input another card, say from TbayTel to use on their networks?

All help appreciated at this moment in time.

yep, that's do to the sim not being 'registered' with a provider. If you get a new sim that has active service that should solve the problem - again, you may need to unlock the phone to use a sim from a different service from what the phone was originally used on.

Total dud! Just found out by doing some internet research that this phone, Moto V551 is not compatible with our G3 network here in Northwest Ontario.
Time to ship to the scrap yard!

Like to take this moment to thank those that stood up to help me out with my issues, have found a new phone - Moto W385 that is compatible with TBayTel network, purchase is in progress.

    Take care!
