Re: Motorola Q: internet access
Step 1
Install the drivers on your computer for your cell phone if you haven't done so already. The easiest way to do this is to insert the phone's Companion CD, double-click the CD drive if it doesn't open automatically, select "Applications" and then select "Dial-Up Networking Software." If you don't have the CD, you can download and run the driver files from the Motorola website in the Resources section.
Step 2
Follow the prompts for the software installation. You should be able to go with the default settings for everything.
Step 3
Turn on the modem-link option in your phone. You do this by pressing the "Start" button and then selecting "Accessories," "Modem-link," "Activate," and finally "On."
Step 4
Connect your phone to your laptop with its provided universal serial bus cord.
Step 5
Click "Install the software automatically" in the install window that displays. Then click "Next." Wait for the final software to install.
Connecting
Step 1
Press the "Start" button on your computer and select "Control Panel."
Step 2
Select "Network Connections" or "Network and Sharing Center," whichever you see.
Step 3
Click either "New Network Connection Wizard" or "Set up a connection or network," whichever you see.
Step 4
Follow each of the onscreen prompts to continue connecting. Many options display across various versions of Windows and various computers; you might have to check in "Help and Support" for Windows, which is in the laptop's "Start" menu. A few options you should look out for are those that let you indicate you want to manually connect to the Internet with a dial-up modem and you are connecting with your phone rather than a standard modem; often that option is labeled "Smartphone Wireless USB Modem."
Step 5
Give your network a name when you're prompted to do so. It doesn't matter what you name it.
Step 6
Input "#777" for the number to dial. The computer will probably ask you who the connection is available for, and you can select "Anyone's use."
Step 7
Type this in when you're prompted for your user name: "[phone number]@vzw3g.com". Do not type the brackets; you should type in your Motorola Q's full phone number only. Do not include dashes.
Step 8
Type in "vzw" for the password.
Step 9
Follow the onscreen prompts to finish the connection process. Your computer should now dial-up to the Internet using your phone.
