Backing Up & Restoring Application Data:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Personal" and tap "Backup & reset"
  4. Mark the "Back up my data" check box to back up Wi-Fi password, account data and other settings to Google's servers
  5. Mark the "Automatic restore" check box

NOTE: Application data will be automatically restored when signing in with the Google account used for backing up the data

Backing Up Contacts on a Google Account:

  1. Tap "All apps" from the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap "Accounts"
  3. Select the account you want to sync
  4. Tap "Menu" and select "Sync now"

NOTE: Contacts will be automatically restored when you sign in with the Google account used for the back up

Backing Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:

  1. Connect your Nexus 6 to your computer via USB
  2. Navigate to the phone's storage and locate the media files you wish to back up
  3. Copy the files and transfer then in the desired backup location on your computer's hard drive
  4. After the transfer is done, click the "Mass Storage Device" icon from the system tray
  5. Eject the Nexus 6's virtual drive and safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer

Restoring Media Files from a Windows Computer:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Nexus 6 and computer
  2. Go to the phone's storage and open the directory you wish to use for restoring the media files
  3. Open a second Windows Explorer window and locate the backed up files on your computer's hard drive
  4. Copy the files and paste them on your Nexus 6's storage
  5. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone's storage from the system tray, and safely disconnect the device from your computer
