WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes ringtones and media files, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. Additionally, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you factory reset the phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
  4. In case your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN / pattern to proceed
  5. Tap “Reset phone” to confirm. Follow any additional on-screen prompts to complete the process

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, you can alternatively try resetting it from the Android System Recovery menu. The Recovery menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:

  1. Turn off the phone as you normally would
  2. With the device turned off, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. After 5 or more seconds, release both buttons and you should gain access to the “Boot Mode Selection Menu
  4. Press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. Wait for the screen to turn black and for the “No command” screen to appear
  7. While viewing “No command”, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” simultaneously several times to gain access to “Android Recovery
  8. In Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
  9. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  10. Choose to delete “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content
  11. Press “Power” to confirm and wait for the device to reset
  12. Once done “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  13. Press “Power” one last time to confirm and reboot your device

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you have reset the phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “System” and tap “About phone
  3. Tap “System Updates
  4. If new updates are available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply them (NOTE: this process will require to reboot your phone)
