Can't wait for the onset of new phones! I've been researching phones for awhile and came upon this place. Looks like it has a lot of helpful bits so I joined!
A little about me:
Just recently got a new Macbook Air 13" and I have this old flip phone that doesn't text or anything. SO I'm hoping to get something new to replace it when I get to college (gotta impress the people right ;D)
Hello to all!

You can wait for the iphone5 or get an HTC for almost the same features with a cheaper cost. I'd go with the iphone though since you are looking to impress. You Mac will impress more than your phone by the way.

you're in college now, think like a intellectual...smartphone of course, no need to sign a long, expensive contract either, keep it simple...HTC Thunderbolt with Page Plus, G2 with Tmobile or Droid X with metropcs...good luck

You are in college to learn, not to impress anyone. (And a piece of hardware will only impress people who aren't worth impressing, and then only for about a month until the next guy has a brighter new toy.) Don't spend your time there texting. Don't spend your money on phone contracts. If you want to get smarter, start by doing smart things now.

Re: Don't let me get a prepaid phone please.
What is wrong with prepaid. If you are in collage you should want to save as much as possible and still have a good phone. Who cares if it is the newest IPhone or a entry level Android. I know bank officers at US Bank that use the 35 dollar plan on Virgin Mobile because the Optimus V is a good phone and it does everything they want it to do and the 35 dollar plan does all that they need.
Unlimited data, unlimited text and 300 min talk time. If you get Viber Voip app you can call over data for free and not use the 300 min, Hey Tell gives you voice text/walky talky function so you can talk to friends with IPhones, Androids and BBs. Other apps can be added to help save battery and increase stability by freeing up ram and ssd/hard drive space.
What you should be worried about is getting a phone that can do what you need not the coolest bling loaded brick you can find.
Virgin Mobile, Straight Talk and Net10 and possibly Boost are all coming out with new Androids for less than 200.00 (for the phone) and monthly price rates between 55 and 35 a month depending on what you need and much of that pricing is on unlimited plans. ST you can buy one of the Nokia Smart phones (Not one of the Nokia feature phones) and then get your hot snazzy bling bling phone from ATT.
After activating your ST Smart Phone move the SIM card to the ATT phone and change the APN settings on the Apple or Android phone so that the phone works on the ST network and bing you are set. 45 dollar a month unlimited and your fast cranking Android/Apple phone.
But seriously there is nothing wrong with the phones being provided by these prepaid MVNOs.
And in collage?! Seriously?! Save your money and learn as MVT said. Unless your mom and dad are loaded full of cash and you are just going there to spend their money and screw off, you owe it to yourself and those who helped you get there to learn.
