If you are experiencing the "white screen of death", a solution that works is to use a program called JL_Cmder factory reset your phone. Please keep in mind that any information on your phone will be erased.

Hope that helps!

I spent about 5 hrs trying to install an updated os after experiecing white screen of death. I was able to recieve calls and make them though. I took apart the phone. I ended up getting the entire screen to detached. I did see the points thast needed to be covered. I covered them with tape. The screen was still sticky enough that i was able to re-attach it. Power on ... AND HOLY MOTHER OF JE- it F**KIN WORKED. ALL THOSE HOURS WASTED U PIECE OF BLACK BERRY SH** Anyways it works. But after all this bs i think im gonna go get an iphone tomorrow

If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black or white screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.

1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.

na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/]BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop Software - BlackBerry Software at BlackBerry.com

2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):

"c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm

3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.

NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads]BlackBerry Operating System Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version.

I have never heard of this being done. I have only owned three berry's though. I usually don't keep them long enough for something like what your describing happen to them.

Then again, I carry insurance on my phones so if something like this ever did, I would just get a new one.

Could I please get some feedback as to whether electrical tape placed behind the screen (in front of the four solder points) has fixed white screen/blurry image problems?

I've seen only one reply, on another forum website, that this has helped. It appeared to solve this individual's cell phone problems completely.

This is a very common problem and I just want to make sure that people viewing this thread know whether this works or not.

It's worked for me, but this is only one case.

One thing I must point out (even though it should be obvious).

If you try any suggestions here on the Forum, and it bricks (breaks/destroys) your phone. Please don't come back here and want us to replace/pay for your phone because you tried something here that you read.

If you try anything anybody has suggested, you do it at your own risk.

WE TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY IF YOUR PHONE IS RUINED.

With that being said, I would listen to what Tru Shard has to say.

First I would try and get a replacement though.

First:

By all means, use warranty if you have it. This is just normal wear and tear for a cell phone.I never dropped my phone and encountered this same problem. Please do not tell them that you dropped your phone, as they may take this as "dropped it from the roof of your house." Dropping your phone from a 3-4 foot distance to the ground is normal, everyday wear for a phone. It should be built to withstand small drops.

If your warranty does not cover it:

Follow my instructions on the previous post on how to fix this problem. It's guaranteed to work, but may void your warranty. There is a short created between the screen and these four solder points that causes this. A fuzzy screen, hesitant display change, and white screen are all experiences I had while this problem occurred. Please be careful when pulling the adhesed screen from the mainboard, if you do attempt.

My phone is still working and my post was made a few months ago.

As for people with sim card errors:

Problem solved. Stick an index card or thick piece of paper on top of the Sim Card so that when you put the silver latch back and close it, a more firm connection is made from the back of your sim card to the metal contact points in your phone.

Hope this helped.
