We did train him to walk off-leash. We used a training program called Sit Means Sit (I can't post URL's yet, but their site is sitmeanssit dot com). They use e-collar technology to train the dogs to listen to commands even when they're a few hundred feet away. Very cool and very effective.
I'm glad you were able to train him successfully. I didn't use any special program in training my dog, although it probably would have been more effective.

Hi, tavenger. Actually, our daughter's friend said something about the pup being a little boomer; hence the name "Boomer." Our "middle" pug's name is "Moonkin" (from World of Warcraft - daughter is a gamer).

Boomer like a kangaroo, or Battlestar Galactica reference?

Your assessment of cat/dog ownership sounds accurate. Taking care of a dog is a full time job. I've never owned a cat though.
He looks like a friendly dog. Do you have him trained to where you can walk with him without a leash, or does he need a leash? I've always wanted a dog that I could walk without a leash but I just don't trust them. There is a lot of traffic where I'm at so I don't think it would be a good idea. I'd think they'd try to eat everything too if you can't pull them away with a leash.

I like a lot of animals, but some of them are more difficult to take care of than others. I like dogs, but cats are so much easier to take care of.
