Thank you very much. Would receiving text messages or sending a text message cause you to use data?

If you go to the internet on your phone that is definitely what is using data. I'm not familiar with the software on the phone, but if there is any application on the phone that gets data other than text messages and mms pictures then it is using data. I used weather as an example because that is the most common type of data downloading app.

I mean, if I go on the internet on my phone is that what causes the kb's on the usage data part of my bill? Is there anything else that I used on my phone that would cause the data usage?

But would looking at the weather or something for a couple minutes cause 4,288 of data usage?

You can still have a non-smartphone and use data. Perhaps you looked at the weather a couple times or something similar? Your phone doesn't have wi-fi but it does have 3g data.

I am new to the cell phone world and just had a simple question that I couldn't find anywhere online. On my Sprint bill, it shows 4,288 3g Data Usage, and 60mb 3g Roaming Data Usage. I don't have a smartphone, it is a Kyocera DuraXT, flip-phone. So what is the data usage I am using? Both roaming and not roaming? If I have WiFi in my house, can my phone even use it since it isn't a smart phone? Would that contribute to data usage at all? I don't think I've even turned it on if I do. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
