I gave my LG 500 an Ozark hillbilly fix by using a sharp pointed pocket knife to remove the browser soft button. The little connector is still there but the button which activates it is gone and there are no more accidental browser activations. With a little care the back button can still be used (intentionally) with a sharp finger nail or pencil if it is needed. My phone now works just fine with no criminal airtime stealing.

I came here looking for a solution to this problem.
I've lost many minutes because of inadvertently opening the browser while pressing the back button.
It's a blatant effort to steal from customers.
When a company tries to scam me or steal from me, I quickly ditch them.
As soon as my minutes are used up, that will be the end of my dealings with TracFone, unless I decide to sue them on behalf of all of the people they're scamming.

Was hoping there would be a way to disable the browser key, but these are some good alternative suggestions. I have found that once I am accustomed to the phone, I rarely hit the browser key.

One saving grace is that once you've launched the browser that same softkey will cancel and close it, which is the best chance you have of exiting the browser without having minutes deducted. So if you hit it accidentally, hit it again instead of flinching away or hitting the END button.

Unfortunately there is no way to disable the browser button by adjustment within the phone's software. This is definitely a most asinine thing about this phone. I have yet to accidentally press the browser button but I have read several posts from users having the same problem as yourself. You need to lock the phone so as to prevent any accidental calls or web browsing while the phone isn't being used if you haven't already done so. Either set it to auto-lock (you can adjust the delay) or press and hold the 2nd button from the left on the bottom row (this button has a small padlock & envelope on it) until your display shows the phone is locked. Your display will dim simultaneously as the keyboard locks.

Another method to consider in addition to locking the keyboard -- Do not allow your phone to stay on the 'Home Page'. To do this, with the keyboard unlocked, simply press the 'Menu' button once and then the 'Browser' button option is not shown. You may then manually or auto-lock the keyboard.

I hope this helps your situation and I hope you are happy with your phone otherwise.

I have been trying to find a way to disable the browser function of this phone. One of the soft keys points to the browser and sometimes I press it accidentally and it launches, thereby charging me for the second or so it is running. I already know about KB locking, but i want to remove the soft key choice altogether and maybe have it open my text message function, for instance.

does anyone know of a hack or code entry that will allow me to change the soft key function, or disable the browser or even remove it? i dont even use the browser on the phone anyway. Thanks for the help in advance.
