Same here! I am using CDMA cell phone do have the commercial phone in my office and till date I didn't find any problem with the network. Around 2 years back I switched to CDMA and before that I was using GSM and not getting better services in terms of connectivity and network (proper range) and now I am completely free.

^^^ Guys, get back on-topic or I'll have to close the thread... All this Mac/PC/Linux talk belongs in our Computers forum, NOT in a thread about competing cellular technologies.

The Mac OS does sit on top of a Linux shell so it is built around the Linux platform which may be a reason for its stability.

Something else about those commercials is that they advertise Mac vs. PC...although I can bet that there are more virii for Mac than there are for Linux. Linux never freezes up or crashes (unless you mess it up). They're really comparing their full systems to an operating system...not the full machine. But, again, most people don't know that. It irritates me because I know better, but I have to admit that it's a good marketing concept.

Oh C'mon, those commercials are ingenious and humorous. It pokes fun at the differences of the two competing technologies with a good degree of truth, and truth in humor is what makes something funny. I've had both Macs and PC's, and really cannot even begin to compare them as far as build quality, performance and reliabilty because Apple is so ahead of the curve. I never crash, I never freeze up and yes, I've never had a virus that I know of in 10 years (virus's are written for maximum damage so it only makes sense to go after the pc with it's market share). But since this is a cell phone forum, I'll bring it back to that...Keep your eyes open in the next 6 months to a year as Apple introduces it's very own cell phone to the market, don't know what they will call it, maybe iPhone?

I hate those commercials. The only reason that there are more virii for Windows than there are for Macs is because there are more people that run Windows. If Mac OSX was the popular operating system, there would be a lot more virii for it than Windows. I guess they take the right logic when they're advertising to the masses that don't know any better, but they still piss me off. I'm a Mac fan (I don't have one, but I like them), but I hate those commercials.

Touche'...You are correct but I still stand by what I said. I guess we're both kinda right here, we each have our point, only two different ways of viewing it. Kinda like the Mac and PC commercial...of course, I'm the Mac.

This doesn't change what I said. GSM was implemented for commercial cell phone use before CDMA. GSM (for cell phones) has been around longer. I suspect that the CDMA technology that the military was using in the 40's would be similar to comparing the internet to ARPANET.

spum is correct, different networks work differently in every area. It all depends what you use your phone for, and where you live.

As for the CDMA / GSM time line, EV-DO, which is a CDMA technology, is newer than GSM's EDGE, and EV-DO is faster.

    GSM was implemented in 1990.

    History of GSM

    CDMA was implemented in 1993.

CCF : History & Milestones of CDMA

And actually, if you want to get specific, GSM started to be developed in 1982. CDMA started to be developed in 1988. That's in those links as well.
